AUSTIN (KXAN) — It’s finally here, the matchup the college football world has been anticipating since the teams last played in the College Football Playoff semifinals — Texas vs. Ohio State.
The Longhorns enter the game as the top-ranked team in both coaches’ and media polls, and they should be near full strength in terms of player availability. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said transfer wide receiver Emmett Mosley V will be limited due to a leg injury the coaching staff has been managing throughout training camp. Mosley is expected to play some, but not nearly as much as he would if he were healthy.
Mosley caught 45 passes for 525 yards last year for Stanford and came to the Longhorns as a potential third receiver to go with Ryan Wingo and DeAndre Moore. Sarkisian said Parker Livingstone and Daylan McCutcheon have had good training camps and should also see time catching passes from Arch Manning.
Left tackle Trevor Goosby is expected to start and play through a hand injury that he suffered in the team’s second training camp scrimmage. Right tackle Andre Cojoe is out for the season with a knee injury sustained in the early days of training camp.
For the Buckeyes, defensive lineman Eddrick Houston’s training camp knee injury isn’t as serious as once thought, and he’s expected to play.
Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian called this game a “barometer” for his team.
“This is what college football should be about,” he said in an interview with KXAN’s Roger Wallace. “It’s important that this game won’t define our season. We may go out and play great and win, but we still have 11 more regular season games to go on the mission we’re on. If we lose, that’s OK, too, because we have 11 more regular season games to get ourselves in position to accomplish our goals.”
The game will be broadcast on FOX and kicks off at 11 a.m. CT.
