AUSTIN (KXAN) — We had another triple digit today in Austin (Camp Mabry), despite higher humidity and some high clouds making for Austin’s 21st triple digit day of the year.
Tonight, clouds will continue to increase with only a slight (10%) chance for an overnight shower after midnight.
This weekend
The weekend forecast is a tricky one because we have a cold front arriving on Saturday along with tropical moisture peaking on Sunday. In short, the result means that temperatures won’t be as hot and both days have the chance for rain and storms.
Cold front temperature changes
On Saturday, a cold front comes during the late morning in our northern counties or the early-mid afternoon in our southern counties. Expect 80s to near 90º in some spots around midday before temperatures cool off much earlier than normal.
By late afternoon or early evening temperatures will have fallen into the upper 70s or low 80s in most areas.
Location is key. The farther north you are, the earlier you’ll feel the temperature change.
Weekend showers and storms
Before and after the front we’ll have the potential for a few showers or thunderstorms on Saturday giving about 40% of Central Texas some rain.
On Sunday the front will be to our south, but leftover tropical moisture from what was once Hurricane Lorena comes into Central Texas. This should bring us another chance for scattered showers or storms.
NOTE: It won’t rain all weekend and not all areas will see rain, but the potential is still there for locally heavy rain. Some localized spots may see 1-3″ of rain, but most areas will end up well under 1″ of rain if you see rain at all.
Next week
By Monday rain is generally done or fading fast with only a 10% rain chance. The rest of next week looks dry with plenty of sunshine and temperatures heading for the low to mid 90s.
