Happy Thursday,
For more than a century, two North Texas college football teams have faced off in hopes of taking a famed trophy home to either Fort Worth or Dallas. This Saturday, the tradition is coming to an end.
The TCU Horned Frogs and SMU Mustangs meet on the field one last time Sept. 20 for the 104th “Battle for the Iron Skillet” rivalry game at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth.
The universities first played each other in 1915, but the contest wasn’t coined the “Battle for the Iron Skillet” until 1946 when a SMU Mustang fan allegedly fried frog legs in a skillet before the game. The decision to face off in a final game was made in 2023.
Find out where you can watch the historic game below.
Also, today is North Texas Giving Day, the biggest day of philanthropy in the region. We’re asking you to help us grow our coverage of the arts. Join in the giving now to unlock a $50,000 match before midnight.
