DRIPPING SPRINGS, Texas (KXAN) – There are plans to build a Target in Dripping Springs, according to permits obtained by KXAN.
In recent months, rumors have circulated online and in the media that a developer had plans to build a Target at 13550 W. U.S. Highway 290 in Dripping Springs. Those plans appear to be going forward, as Houston-based developer Property Commerce has filed a site preparation and foundation permit with Hays County.
KXAN has reached out to the developer. We’ll update this story once we hear a response.
In addition to the Target, the site preparation and foundation permit includes around 18,500 square feet of retail space. The permit’s status is “on hold” until an inspection is complete.
Dripping Springs residents have had mixed reactions to the proposal. Some on Facebook have expressed that a new Target would be convenient, while others have said it’s another sign the city is losing its “small town” appeal.
Construction has increased in Dripping Springs in recent years as its population has steadily grown. To help guide that growth, city leaders released a comprehensive plan draft in September 2024 that prioritizes community character, infrastructure, connectivity, housing, and economic development.
“I would say that throughout the region, communities are grappling with change,” Cliff Kaplan, program director for the Hill Country Alliance, told us in August. The nonprofit advocates for development that protects the natural environment and cultural identity of the Hill Country.
