AUSTIN (KXAN) — All Texas does is beat ranked opponents.
The No. 2 Longhorns logged their eighth consecutive top-25 win with a sweep over No. 21 Missouri 25-19, 26-24, 27-25 on Friday at Gregory Gym to move to 10-0 on the season. It’s also the team’s fifth consecutive sweep.
Texas swept Vanderbilt on Wednesday in the Southeastern Conference opener at Gregory Gym.
Torrey Stafford led the Longhorns with 15 kills and three service aces against the Tigers. Cari Spears had 14 kills and Ayden Ames chipped in eight. Ella Swindle had 37 set assists on 56 total kills to go with 10 digs.
The Longhorns had four service aces in the first game to set the tone early. Emma Halter had two of them within the first four points, and then Texas went on to win the set comfortably.

The second set, however, was a different story. Missouri built a 12-9 lead before the Longhorns went on a 4-0 run to earn their first lead of the set. From there, the teams battled back and forth to a 24-24 tie until kills by Abby Vander Wal and Ames clinched it for the Longhorns.
Texas let a 9-5 lead slip away in the third set after the Tigers went on a 6-0 run. Missouri then poured it on to build a 16-11 lead, but the Longhorns made a run of their own to get back in the match. Texas ran off five consecutive points to tie it at 16-16, and then fought to take a 22-20 lead after a kill by Spears.
It went to 25-25 before Spears and Taylor Harvey ended the match with kills, giving the Longhorns their second SEC victory of the season.
Texas (10-0, 2-0 SEC) faces Georgia on the road Oct. 1.
