Boys Athlete of the Week – Kaden Carpio, Dimmitt

Kaden Carpio, Dimmitt football, Jr.
On the field: Carpio put up number that looked more like a season than a single game during a wild 70-54 shootout victory over Tulia in a District 1-3A Division II opener last Friday.
In a game that saw over 1,400 yards combined, Dimmitt’s offense was unstoppable posting an eye-popping 810 yards of offense. Carpio was responsible for over 600 of those yards highlighted by his ability to run the ball. Carpio was called upon time and time again and answered every call running the ball 40 times piling up a career-high 479 yards with seven rushing touchdowns. If that wasn’t impressive enough, Carpio added 134 yards through the air with another score, finishing the game with 613 yards and eight TDs.
Through the first seven games, Carpio has already rushed for 1,175 yards on 141 carries with 21 touchdowns and has thrown for 1,093 yards with eight more scores.
Head coach Jimmy Arias: “We’re playing great right now and we’re just trying to get better. I think the key to that is everyone is trusting each other and working hard to get better. Kaden has really come along at quarterback this year. He’s a quiet guy but leads by example. He always makes the correct reads and his vision on the zone read is very good.”
Carpio: “We’re getting better every week and we’re playing with more confidence. Everyone on this team wants to be better and be successful. I feel from last year, my confidence has gotten better on the field. I trust my teammates and I know they trust me. I think my vision is much better and I’m seeing the field. I just want to always give my team all I have.”
