AUSTIN (KXAN) — A pedestrian was killed by a driver who struck them with a vehicle in the 9600 block of North Lamar Boulevard early Monday morning, according to the Austin Police Department.
APD Watch Command told KXAN the driver fled from the scene, making the collision a hit and run. It also said that dispatchers got the initial 911 call reporting the crash around 12:50 a.m. Monday.
The pedestrian, a male who hasn’t been identified yet, was pronounced dead at the scene, APD said in a Monday afternoon update.
The block, just north of Rutland Drive, was briefly shut down around 1:15 a.m., according to an alert issued by APD. Around 3:58 a.m., it announced the road had reopened.
The death is the Austin area’s 78th traffic fatality.
