KSAT’s Game of the Week this Friday night will see the Alamo Heights Mules at the Boerne Greyhounds in a District 13-5A-DII contest.
Alamo Heights is 4-0 this season after beating Seguin 70-35, Churchill 54-24, Canyon 42-28, and Clemens last week 33-30. That tight game at Clemens is what the Mules needed before facing Boerne in this district opener.
“It’s super important,” said Alamo Heights senior offensive lineman Greyson Hanzel. “It was a really close matchup. I think we played a team that gave us adversity, gave us challenge, and that will really prepare us for district.”
Boerne enters 3-1, having fallen to Pieper in their opener 35-28, but then rebounded with wins over Laredo United, Medina Valley, and last week topped UIL Class 6A East Central 49-13. Beating the Hornets before taking on the Mules in this district opener is a good thing for the Greyhounds.
“It was really important,” said Boerne senior defensive lineman Blake Burkholder. “Last year, we went against Heights with a loss on our belt, and I think that brought us down a little bit. It was a good little confidence boost for our team, especially playing a 6A team like that. And they’re known to be a pretty good team.”
Alamo Heights is predicted to win the 13-5A-DII championship, with Boerne finishing second, per Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.
Boerne will host Alamo Heights on Friday at 7 p.m. at Boerne ISD Stadium.
