AUSTIN (KXAN) — Round Rock surged to a big lead and cruised to a 40-12 victory over Cedar Ridge in high school football action Friday at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex.
The win improves the Dragons to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in District 25-6A play, and they did it with a backup quarterback for essentially the entire game.

Dov Stickler entered the game after starter Jack Appl limped off the field after the Dragons’ first drive, and all Stickler did was throw two touchdown passes and lead the Round Rock offense down the field with relative ease against the Raiders.
Stickler threw a perfect pass to Daniel Berry over the top of the Raiders’ defense on the first play of the second quarter for a 58-yard score, and then three minutes later, he zipped a screen pass out to Dylan Jaeger, who did a lot of the 57 yards after the catch for another score.
Round Rock scored four touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 35-0 halftime lead. Ryan Sirwaitis and Brady Cochran had rushing touchdowns for the Dragons during the flurry of points.
The Dragons built a 40-0 lead with a safety and a field goal in the second half before the Raiders got on the board. Cedar Ridge kicker Cooper Tougas hammered a 48-yard kick between the uprights to break the scoreless drought on the first play in the fourth quarter.
The Raiders hit pay dirt late in the fourth quarter thanks to tailback Devin Patterson. He ripped off a pair of long runs to set himself up for a 1-yard plunge into the end zone with 2:23 left.
Round Rock (2-3, 2-1) takes on Manor on Oct. 3. Cedar Ridge (2-3, 1-2) takes on Stony Point.
