The 6’3, 180-pounder was a late riser in the 2022 recruiting class out of Mansfield Timberview before earning WAC Freshman of the Year honors at UT Arlington by averaging 9.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists while leading the team at 29.5 minutes per contest.
Weaver entered the portal after his freshman season, landing at Texas under Rodney Terry and emerging as one of the team’s best defenders while making highlight-worthy dunks, finishing the season strong by averaging a team-best 12.0 points per game in the two NCAA Tournament contests. For the season, Weaver scored 6.2 ppg with 3.0 rpg.
The Longhorns missed Weaver’s energy level during the conference games he missed with a hip injury, limiting him to nine starts among his 20 appearances. Weaver’s scoring average remained about the same, but his rebounding improved to 4.9 per contest and his shooting from three jumped to 40.0 percent in a small sample size as he made some changes to his shooting form, although his free-throw shooting was inconsistent at 60.0 percent.
Weaver was a low-usage player as a junior, but rebounded at a high level on both ends of the court, didn’t turn the ball over, and had an above-average free-throw rate.
“You look at [Texas’] stats during the season and then you look at the SEC Tournament, you see the impact of Chendall Weaver. Every team in the nation would like a guy like him,” Miller said before the First Four game against Texas.
Now Miller’s team will benefit from Weaver’s ability to make winning plays.
