AUSTIN (KXAN) — A perfect week sent the Texas Longhorns up in the latest D1Baseball.com Top 25 while a 1-3 week sent Texas A&M into a freefall.

Texas moved up three spots to No. 12 after a 4-0 week, capped by a 3-0 championship performance at the Las Vegas Classic. The Longhorns started the week Feb. 25 with a 6-0 win over Incarnate Word in Austin, then defeated Washington 10-9, Texas Tech 10-5, and Illinois 15-6 in Las Vegas over the weekend. Texas scored 35 runs on 40 hits to win the tournament and moved its record to 9-1.

The Aggies, meanwhile, struggled to a 1-3 week and plummeted from their No. 1 perch to No. 15. They lost three consecutive games to Texas State, Arizona, and Oklahoma State before getting on track with a mercy-rule win over Rice. Texas A&M is 6-4 so far this season, but of course, there’s a lot of baseball left to be played, and they’re still very good regardless of the bump in the road.

Louisiana State took over the No. 1 spot, followed by Tennessee, Arkansas, North Carolina and Georgia. Florida State, Florida, Oregon State, Virginia and Oregon rounded out the top 10. Half of the top 10 teams are from the Southeastern Conference.

Ole Miss made a big move from No. 24 to No. 17 after a 4-0 week, while Auburn and Alabama moved into the rankings at Nos. 22 and 23, respectively. The SEC has 12 teams in the top 25.

The Longhorns take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and host Santa Clara for a 3-game series starting Friday. Texas A&M plays UTSA, Texas Southern and New Mexico State at BLue Bell Park this week.
