Let’s hope it shakes out better than this for Ewers

There’s a lot of talk around how high, or how low, former Texas Longhorns ewers-facing-program-he-reclassified-to-join-in-cfp-semifinals-at-cotton-bowl-classic/” title=”Ewers facing program he reclassified to join in CFP semifinals at Cotton Bowl Classic”>quarterback Quinn Ewers goes in this year’s NFL Draft.

NFL.com is seemingly higher on Ewers than some analysts. In a recent three-round mock draft, Ewers — a three-year starter under center for the Longhorns — was predicted to fall to the No. 33 overall pick to the Cleveland Browns.

Sound familiar?

Remember Colt McCoy’s NFL path following his four years starting at Texas?

While it’s a better prediction than McCoy’s destiny that saw him fall to the Browns in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft (No. 85 overall, in fact), it’s not a great destination for virtually any quarterback with intentions to compete long-term in the NFL as a starter.

Let’s hope the future is brighter for Ewers, who undoubtedly brought Texas back.

Over the past two seasons with Ewers at the helm, Texas football has twice competed in the semifinal round of the College Football Playoffs, won a Big 12 Championship, and competed in the SEC Championship to conclude the program’s first season in its new conference.
