AUSTIN (KXAN) – The San Antonio Spurs are set to get a slight taste of home cooking in the midst of their annual rodeo road trip as they will play two games at Moody Center on Thursday and Friday.
After an eventful All-Star break that featured San Antonio players in the slam dunk contest and skills challenge, the Spurs head to Austin for the fourth season playing games at Texas’ basketball arena.
“It’s exciting just for us,” said Spurs guard Devin Vassell. “It’s a different spot to play at. The gym, it almost feels like you’re back in college.”
The Spurs host the Phoenix Suns on Thursday and the Detroit Pistons on Friday. The Suns and Spurs are trying to jockey for positioning in the Western Conference as they both find themselves currently out of the play-in tournament.

Spurs point guard De’Aaron Fox has played five games with San Antonio since being acquired from the Sacramento Kings. The Houston native has yet to play a game in his home state since then, so these games will be special.
“For the big thing is just being able to play in Texas,’ said Fox on what gets him excited for the games at Moody Center. “We haven’t had anything close to a home game and I’ve never experienced anything like this as well.”
The Houston native came as a freshman and sophomore in high school to play on Texas’ campus but has not played a game in Austin since, but noted how much he feels the excitement with the growth of the city.
Spurs star Victory Wembanyama is doubtful for the game Thursday against the Suns, according to multiple reports.
