AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas volleyball team is playing in another high-profile match this fall.
The Longhorns will take on 2024 national runner-up Louisville in the “Showdown at the Net,” benefitting Shriners Children’s Hospital at 8 p.m., Sept. 10, at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. The event also features Pitt and Kentucky, with the matches on ESPN.

The event is part of the ACC/SEC Challenge, and the remaining teams from each conference will play matches at home sites Sept. 9-10.
Texas leads the all-time series with the Cardinals 4-1. The last time the teams met was in the 2022 national championship match. The Longhorns won 3-0 to capture the title, and they added another national championship the following year.
The 2025 schedule for Texas is quickly becoming one big match after another. The Longhorns begin the season Aug. 29 and 31 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at the Opening Spike Classic, taking on Creighton and Wisconsin. In their first match Sept. 7 in Austin, the Longhorns are trading Gregory Gym for Moody Center to take on Stanford in the first volleyball match ever at the 10,000-seat arena.
“This is an exciting time for our sport and this matchup will be one the fans don’t want to miss,” Texas head coach Jerritt Elliott said. “This is the fastest growing sport, and with these high-level matchups we continue to see across the NCAA, it will only get bigger.”
