USA Baseball announced the news over the weekend
Texas Longhorns true freshman pitcher Dylan Volantis has had one hell of a debut in Austin.
For one, the lefty gunslinger set a new Southeastern Conference record with 11 saves this season, breaking a more than two-decade-old record previously held by Ole Miss alum Steven Head, according to 247Sports. And as 247Sports also notes, “In 16 appearances versus SEC teams, Volantis allowed five runs over 28 1/3 frames, while issuing eight walks and registering 48 strikeouts.” Now, he’s also earned a semifinalist nod for this year’s Golden Spikes Award, which is awarded annually to the nation’s top amateur baseball player.

From 247Sports:
“Overall, Volantis has notched a 4-0 ledger with 12 saves, which is tied for sixth nationally. On the year, Volantis has made 20 appearances, starting one contest and has yielded only eight earned runs in 43 1/3 innings, collecting 64 strikeouts along the way.”
Volantis also landed on this season’s All-SEC team.
Not bad. Not bad at all.
