According to one report, last year’s Big 12 Player of the Year will miss the remainder of the regular season.
Texas Longhorns junior right fielder Max Belyeu is week to week after suffering a thumb injury on an awkward fall making a catch against the Missouri Tigers in Columbia on Friday, according to the school. He missed both games during Saturday’s doubleheader.
Official word from Texas is that OF Max Belyeu is week-to-week with a thumb injury. Texas will have to update his status on a weekly basis on the SEC availability reports.

According to a report from Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball, Belyeu will miss the remainder of the regular season after fracturing his thumb, but could return for postseason play.

During a Tuesday appearance on Coffee & Football with OnTexasFootball, head coach Jim Schlossnagle revealed that Belyeu will have surgery on his thumb, perhaps as early as this week, and could be back for the final regular-season series against Oklahoma.
The 6’2, 215-pounder was a preseason All-SEC first-team selection after earning Big 12 Player of the Year honors in 2024 by .329 average with 50 runs, 15 doubles, 18 home runs, and 53 RBI, tying for the team lead in home runs and pacing the Horns with a slugging percentage of .667.
It was a breakout season for Belyeu, who was ranked as the No. 312 player in the 2022 recruiting class, according to Perfect Game, but played sparingly as a freshman, batting .300 in 15 games with four starts.
This year, Belyeu was off to a strong start in the middle of the Texas lineup, slashing .365/.465/.642 with seven doubles, six home runs, and 22 RBI.
Against the Tigers, head coach Jim Schlossnagle moved sophomore Tommy Farmer to left field with sophomore Easton Winfield, freshman Matt Scott, freshman Jonah Williams, and junior Jayden Duplantier all receiving playing time in left field.
