This is just what happens when you win, folks
It happened.
There’s officially buzz around the idea of Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian — who’s, at the very least, guided the job/” title=”Longhorns Daily News: Texas president Jay Hartzell announces departure for SMU job”>back-on-the-sideline-when-texas-takes-on-ohio-state-in-cotton-bowl/” title=”Longhorns Daily News: Bevo will be back on the sideline when Texas takes on Ohio State in Cotton Bowl”>back-on-the-sideline-when-texas-takes-on-ohio-state-in-cotton-bowl/” title=”Longhorns Daily News: Bevo will be back on the sideline when Texas takes on Ohio State in Cotton Bowl”>football program to back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinal appearances — could potentially leave Austin for a job with the NFL.
That’s according to ESPN NFL analyst and reporter Adam Schefter.
“I would expect some teams to call and inquire about Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, who’s drawn some interest from the NFL level,” Schefter said over the weekend, per Inside Texas.
Interesting note here – as in the final minute, Adam Schefter mentions in passing that Steve Sarkisian could be a guy that gets some calls about NFL head coaching opportunities this off-season pic.twitter.com/smcZ0eAo0u

As Inside Texas also notes, a nfl-we-dont-want-to-talk-about-it-2/” title=”Texas’ Steve Sarkisian to the NFL? We don’t want to talk about it”>head coaching gig in the NFL wouldn’t amount to Sarkisian’s first odyssey as a coach in the big leagues. In 2004, Sarkisian was the Oakland Raiders’ quarterback coach. And in 2017 and 2018, as a coordinator, Sarkisian led the Atlanta Falcons’ offense; the 2017 squad won its way to a 10-6 regular season and an NFC Divisional Round appearance, while the 2018 Falcons missed the playoff. From there, Sarkisian would later rejoin Nick Saban’s Alabama in 2019 and 2020 before taking the Texas job in 2021.
Despite the Sarkisian-to-NFL buzz, let us remember it’s still only buzz.
And that Texas boosters are almost certainly willing to beat whatever alluring NFL price that might arise during the coaching carousel this upcoming offseason for college and pro alike.
