On the Diamond
Texas Tech softball run-ruled Mississippi State 10-1 thanks to a 3-run home run by Lauren Allred in the 6th inning to end the game. NiJaree Canady won her 27th game of the year and also homered. The ladies will face Mississippi State after the Bulldogs downed the Washington Huskies 11-10 yesterday as the Huskies are eliminated. Today’s game is set for 2:00 p.m. (at the very least streamed on ESPN+ and could be on an ESPN property) and there is the possibility of another game if necessary, i.e. if Texas Tech loses that first game today.
Texas Tech baseball beat BYU 7-4 in the final game of the series behind another Logan Huges home run, his 19th of the season, and a strong pitching performance from Zane Petty. With yesterday’s result complete, Texas Tech is the No. 9 seed in the Big 12 Championship at Globe Life Field in Arlington and will face No. 8 seed Cincinnati on Wednesday afternoon.
On the Track
Texas Tech track and field swept the men’s and women’s Big 12 titles late on Saturday night after a short lightning delay, the 6th for the men and the 1st for the women. Texas Tech men finished with 136 points while BYU was second with 100.66 and the Texas Tech women had 127 points to 112.5 for BYU. Congrats to Coach Kittley and all of the student-athletes on a terrific run (they aren’t done yet)!
