On the Diamond

Texas Tech softball defeated Mississippi State 9-6 to advance to the Super Regionals for the first time in the program’s history. NiJaree Canady earned her 28th win and Hailey Toney and Mihyia Davis both went 3-4, Toney had 2 home runs and Davis scored 2 runs. Lauren Allred went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI.

The ladies will be in the Tallahassee Super Regional to take on No. 5 Florida State who won the Tallahassee Regional by defeating Auburn in the “if necessary” game on Sunday afternoon. The Tallahassee Super Regional schedule:

Thursday, May 22nd @ 7:00 p.m. on ESPN2
Friday, May 23rd @ 3:00 p.m. on ESPN2
Saturday, May 24th @ 7:00 p.m.

I posted this ESPN’s Dave Wilson story on Saturday morning and weekend posts tend to not get as much traction as the weekdays and this is a good look at how Canady became a Red Raider and the involvement of Tracy and John Sellers.

On the Hardwood

College Hoops Today’s Jon Rothstein was the first to report that Texas Tech and LSU will meet at Dickie’s Arena in Fort Worth on December 7th.

On the Gridiron

This is from On3 and feels a little clickbait-ish because the headline is that Nick Saban meets with Cody Campbell and that’s not what I really care about with this article. The important item for me was that Saban recently went on the Paul Finebaum show and said that he wasn’t even sure if a Presidential Commission was necessary. I’m not in the room, but my guess is that Campbell and Saban did meet and when Saban realized that Campbell wasn’t going to capitulate to what he wants to do, which is to form a super-league of 40 teams and leave everyone else out of the entire process, then he wasn’t sure if this Presidential Commission was what’s best. I’m not confident on any sort of presidential commission no matter the subject, but Campbell does want to eventually introduce legislation that would govern collegiate sports. Again, I don’t know how this will eventually plan in to the House vs. NCAA settlement, but that will probably all be considered.
