On the Diamond

No. 12 Texas Tech softball takes on No. 5 Florida State in the Tallahassee Super Regional starting today:

Game 1: No. 12 Texas Tech at No. 5 Florida State – May 22 at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN2
Game 2: No. 12 Texas Tech at No. 5 Florida State – May 23 at 2 p.m. CT on ESPN2
Game 3 (if necessary): No. 12 Texas Tech at No. 5 Florida State – May 24 at 6 p.m. CT on TBD

This is a 3-game series and if you are catching up, this was a great recap of the past weekend.

Texas Tech baseball dropped their game against Cincinnati, 6-5 and yesterday I confidently wrote that this was a double-elimination tournament (because it had always been that way) and that was not true. That’s what I get for making an assumption and not checking to make sure something I was writing was true. Thus, the season is over and a final record of 20-33.

On the Hardwood

The Lady Raiders announced they have hired Adrian Walters as the new associate head coach. Walters was at North Carolina for the past 5 years, the Tar Heels finished 29-8 last year and 13-5 in the ACC.

Per the Field of 68, Texas Tech will play Duke at Madison Square Garden on December 20th.

I also failed to mention yesterday, and I think this is because I have mentally prepared myself to believe that it’s not happening here, is that Darrion Williams has withdrawn from the NBA Draft.

The most likely landing spots are Kansas, North Carolina State, and Ohio State, although there are lots of BYU and Kansas State fans in the mentions of the embedded tweet/post. If you have listened to any of Chris Level and Casey Cowen on YouTube, you would know that Texas Tech and McCasland was in a bad spot when Williams decided to enter the draft without a commitment to return. And to be clear, this was Williams prerogative and I don’t mean that in a bad way. He’s essentially a free agent, but that also meant that McCasland somewhat had to move on with LeJuan Watts mostly and Josiah Moseley to a lesser extent. I’d love it if Williams went to any place other than Kansas, but that’s not how this works. Wish him luck and the best moving forward.

Also wanted to mention that via On3, Devan Cambridge has committed to UCF.

ESPN’s Myron Medcalf grades every Big 12 team and the Red Raiders finish with an “A”.
