AUSTIN (KXAN) — After claiming the program’s first UIL football championship in December, the Vandegrift Vipers threw a party Saturday to celebrate the historic achievement.

Vandegrift defeated Southlake Carroll 24-17 on Dec. 21 to claim the 6A Division II state title behind a punishing rushing attack and a defense that made the Dragons one-dimensional. Head coach Drew Sanders said the support from the community was second to none, especially during the playoffs.

“The support I felt and the team felt throughout the entire playoff run, we had more fans than pretty much any team we played against every playoff game, we sell out every home game … Viper Nation is real,” Sanders said. “I’m so thankful for all of them.”

Vandegrift finished the season 15-1.
